Question

Clay --> Salesloft --> CRM Integration Question

My colleagues use Clay (for data enrichment), Salesloft (for outreach and qualification), and Salesforce (for contact/company management).

Here’s the workflow I’m trying to figure out:

  • Once a contact is found in Clay, my colleague will push it to Salesloft.

  • Sometimes there are multiple contacts from the same company.

  • Sync that contact(s) to our Salesforce automatically when the person gets added from Clay

The goal:

  • Make sure each contact is linked to the right company.

  • Sync that net new contact into our Salesforce org automatically if possible

Question:
What’s the best way to do this with as little manual work as possible?

Great Question! Generally speaking, the least manual setup is usually to make Clay the single place that decides which company a contact belongs to and writes the record to Salesforce first, then push to Salesloft. I’m describing the general pattern here, not your org’s actual configuration, for help with your specific set up please email success@salesloft.com and my team can take a look!

Recommended flow (Clay as the orchestrator)

  1. Resolve the company once, by domain. In Clay, look up the Salesforce Account using the company’s domain (or a domain field on Account) and pull back the Account ID. Contacts from the same company hit the same lookup, so they all get the same Account ID. This is what keeps multiple contacts at one company linked correctly.
  2. Dedupe before creating. Look up the email in Salesforce (Contacts and Leads). If it exists, update it. If not, create it.
  3. Create the record with the Account ID attached.
    • If the Account exists, create a Contact under it.
    • If no Account exists, either create the Account first or create a Lead, depending on your lead-to-account process. Decide this rule once with RevOps so it’s consistent.
  4. Push to Salesloft after that. Salesloft’s native Salesforce sync matches on email and CRM ID, so it should pick up the existing record instead of creating a duplicate.

Here are your options to automatically import leads from Salesforce to Salesloft:

1. Scheduled auto-import from Salesforce (native)
Salesloft can pull people in automatically from a Salesforce source on a recurring basis, typically a Lead or Contact report, a list view, or a Campaign. You define the criteria in Salesforce (for example, “Leads created in the last day where Status = New and Owner is a Salesloft user”), and Salesloft imports whatever matches. This is usually the lowest-effort route. The main limits are that it’s schedule-based rather than instant, and the filter logic is whatever the report or view can express.

2. Salesforce-triggered cadence enrollment (Flow or automation)
With Salesloft’s Salesforce package installed, you can use Salesforce automation (Flow, or older tools like Process Builder) to add a record to Salesloft and/or a cadence when it meets certain conditions. This gives you more precise, near-real-time triggers, such as “when a Lead is created from source X, add to cadence Y.” It does require Salesforce admin build and maintenance.

3. Salesloft’s own CRM sync settings and cadence rules
Some of this can be configured on the Salesloft side, such as which Salesforce objects sync, how people match to CRM records, and rules for auto-adding people to cadences. Check with your admin whether auto-creating or auto-enrolling people from CRM is enabled in your account.

4. Middleware or API (Tray, Workato, Zapier, or direct API)
A workflow tool can watch for new Salesforce Leads or Contacts and create the person in Salesloft via the API, passing the Salesforce ID so the records stay linked. This is the most flexible option, and it’s useful if you need custom routing or enrichment in between, but it’s also the most to build and own.
